Bud is an orphan at the Home, until one morning when a lady came and picked him up to go to a foster home with a twelve year old boy. He hates it with the Amoses, Todd (the twelve year old boy) beats him up and then gets Bud in trouble so he has to sleep in the shed. He runs away in the morning and goes to Flint. After that he goes to the mission to get food and then after that goes to the library to find Mrs. Hill. Once there, he finds out Mrs.Hill got married and moved to Chicago. He then goes to bed and wakes up to see Bug(his best friend from the orphanage). They go to a town for runaway people go and Bud kisses a girl. In the morning he tries to sneak onto a train but only Bug makes it. So instead he starts to walk to The Grand Rapids to find his dad. Halfway there he meets a man he thinks is a vampire but finally trusts him. The man is called Lefty lewis and he brought him to his grandaughters house. After that he drives him to grand rapids and Bud finds out that Herman E. Calloway can't be his dad cause he is too old.

I like the book because Bud doesn't know who his dad is while sort of being on the run so it makes it exiting while wondering who out of the band could be Bud's dad, or if his dad is dead.

I think he will either run away, find out someone in the band is his dad, or find out his dad is dead.
